Shot by sniper with direct fire to his eye and head during popular protests. Four days earlier on January 4th, when security forces were firing at people, he went into the square to help protesters; his car was targeted with bullets and tear gas and he was injured, but he did not retreat. Despite insistence from friends and family not to go, he responded 'My life is sacrificed for the homeland.' Hours before being killed, he told his sister 'I am the first in line of protests.' When his sister asked 'What are you to this country?' he answered 'I am a citizen.'
