While fleeing the scene on a motorcycle with friends after government forces attacked the gathering, he was targeted by direct gunfire from government forces. Three bullets hit his heart, head, and side. Government authorities falsely claimed his death was due to an accident, but the family was able to see the body and confirmed bullet wounds. The body was buried under strict security measures without public funeral ceremonies.
